Betty Brandt Passick returned to Oxbow during the Covid-19 pandemic to write book two in the Gangster Series, The Black Bag of Dr. Wiltse, Murder on the Prairie, which tells an earlier piece of the story, about a pioneer physician who finds himself in the center of some of the most horrific murders across Northeastern Iowa. When the American Civil War happens, he tells the saga of war through the lens of a pioneer physician.
